Benefits Of The Smart Lighting Systems
Commercial smart lighting system is a network of the connected wireless lighting fixtures and lighting controls,
such as switches, relays and sensors. Smart lighting systems have
an advantage over the wired lighting in a variety of ways:
- Energy efficiency. Smart lighting systems can automatically adjust lighting level based on the occupancy and
daylight availability, resulting in the significant energy savings.
- Operations Control. Building tenants / manages can easily control and adjust lighting systems to their needs
without the expensive electrical work / re-wiring.
They can adjust light fixtures grouping, change which wireless lighting controls interact with which light fixtures,
create and change lighting parameters and scheduling. They can do adjustments
remotely through the web dashboard, or on site using a smartphone and a lighting control mobile application.
- Automatic Data Collection. Smart lighting systems record and provide valuable data on the power usage and building occupancy,
helping building managers optimize
space utilization and general operations.
Bluetooth mesh is a popular technology for the smart lighting systems. Bluetooth mesh specifications were created with the
smart lighting networks in mind, and contain a lot
of standard models specifically geared towards the lighting industry. Bluetooth mesh lighting systems are interoperable -
you can use bluetooth mesh lighting fixtures and wireless lighting controls
from any vendor, or mix devices from the different vendors in one smart lighting network.
Bluetooth mesh smart lighting networks can be commissioned and controlled by the regular smartphones with the lighting control mobile application
- no special hardware is required.
A Bluetooth Mesh Commissioning software allows companies to
manage and configure smart lighting networks via the secure
web dashboard, and apply preset configuration to the on site
lighting fixtures using a bluetooth mesh mobile application.
Centralized Smart Lighting Networks Management: Cloud Software + Mobile Application
Use BLE Mesh Commissioning software to manage multiple IoT smart lighting projects, and smart lighting networks within each project.
Configure the smart lighting networks via the secure web dashboard using a graphical drag and drop interface.
Define the groups of the light fixtures, and which switch(es) / relay(s) and sensors each group should interact with.
Create flexible lighting fixtures and lighting controls groups that are
not necessarily confined to the geographical zoning.
Field commissioners / installers provision on site IoT lighting fixtures and lighting controls into the bluetooth mesh network
and apply
preset configuration using smartphones / tablets and a smart lighting control mobile application.
A mobile application does not require any knowledge of
the bluetooth mesh internal design from the lighting systems installers, and is designed to
minimize amount of
work the on site installers
need to do.
Smart Lighting Management System - Web Interface
Use administrative web interface to manage smart lighting projects and IoT networks,
configure smart lighting networks, review on site IoT devices, manage users of the smart lighting control system and their privileges.
Create a list of IoT device types that are used in your smart lighting networks: light fixtures, switches / relays,
sensors, gateways.
Select which bluetooth mesh models are installed on each smart lighting device, and if the device plays a role of a
publisher or a subscriber. Enter this information once, and it is
re-used for all smart lighting networks - no
redundant entries are required.
Manage projects, create and manage smart lighting networks for each project. Use graphical drag and drop interface to
configure smart lighting networks. Group light fixtures with the lighting controls (sensors, switches, relays) by simply dragging a device type to
the drawing panel and typing the group name.
Define how smart lighting network groups interact
by connecting the groups with the arrows. Visualize groups location on site and groups interaction.
You can define any type of simple or complex relationships between the smart lighting IoT devices without the confines of the geographical "zoning".
You do not have to create zones with all switches and sensors within the zone controlling light fixtures in the same zone.
You have a flexibility to create any kind of smart lighting network design -
for example switches and sensors can control different, perhaps intersecting groups of light fixtures.
Minimize the amount of work required to configure the new smart lighting networks. Use design templates to instantly configure smart lighting networks
that are very similar to each other.
After you created a new smart lighting network based on the template with the pre-defined configuration apply changes to create the exact design you need.
Get live information on the smart lighting networks installation and configuration in the field.
Review the list of the provisioned network devices and their grouping for each smart lighting network via the administrative
web dashboard.
Make sure that smart lighting management system users can only perform actions they are
allowed to perform, and can only
access smart lighting networks to which they were granted access by the administrator.
Manage users of the smart lighting control system, their privileges and access to the
projects via the administrative web dashboard.
Smart Lighting Networks Commissioning - Mobile Application
On site installers / lighting commissioners use smartphones or tablets and a smart lighting control mobile application to
commission network devices on site.
On site installers start the smart lighting system commissioning process by logging into the mobile application and selecting a project / network.
Only smart lighting projects to which a logged in user
has an access will be shown in the smart lighting control mobile application.
Once a user logged into the specific smart lighting network it is locked for editing until the installer finishes his work and successfully submits changes.
An on site installer uses a smart lighting control mobile application to scan for the newly installed unprovisioned lighting fixtures and controllers.
Each device in the list has an Identify button
so that lighting installers could quickly
match the device in the list with the smart lighting device on site. The on site device will blink or use other means to identify itself.
Once the commissioner verifies that this is a correct light fixture or controller
he provisions the device into the smart lighting network with a click of a button.
After a smart lighting IoT device is successfully provisioned it is removed from the list of the unprovisioned network devices.
After all newly installed smart lighting devices are provisioned and added to the network, an installer can configure the devices so that they start
interacting with each other. The network configuration
(network groups and how these groups should interact) is already defined - the only thing that the lighting commissioner needs to do is apply network
groups to the actual on site light fixtures and controllers. Depending on the
situation, an installer can do one of the following:
- When there are many individual IoT devices in the network group (which is usually the case with the light fixtures),
it is more convenient to select a group, then check off all light fixtures that should belong
to this group, and apply configuration with one click.
- When there is one device in a group (e.g. a switch), or when an installer adds a new light fixture to the existing network, he can select a device,
and check off all groups to which the selected IoT device should belong - then
apply the setting with a click of a button.
Either way, an installer can apply the preset configuration with no manual input, and with the minimal amount of work, navigation and clicks.
Smart lighting networks configuration is not a one off thing. You may need to add new IoT devices to the network, remove existing devices,
change grouping of the lighting fixtures and controllers based on the on site conditions. For example,
an on site lighting commissioner can change which light fixtures should belong to the primary daylight zone, and which ones should belong to the secondary
daylight zone. Or a customer may want to change
which light fixtures are controlled by a switch. Or, perhaps an administrator
has changed smart lighting system configuration using an administrative web interface and these changes need to be applied to the on site devices.
Smart lighting control mobile application allows you to adjust network configuration as needed. The smart lighting network
parameters are not confined to a specific mobile device,
so no manual data import / export or data sync is required. Any eligible lighting commissioner who has an access to the specific smart lighting network
can log into the system in the lighting control mobile application and automatically get the latest network data.
He can then apply the required changes and submit them to the central database from a smartphone or tablet.
In addition to the provisioning and grouping of the smart lighting IoT devices you often need to adjust the devices setup parameters.
For example you may want to set a default light brightness level and brightness range, set a timing for the light control time machine,
adjust a sensor sensitivity, etc., etc.
A smart lighting control mobile application has a built-in option to adjust brightness level and range for the light fixtures with the
bluetooth mesh Light Lightness model installed.
If you have light fixtures in your smart lighting network with the Light Lightness model installed you can use this built-in mobile application functionality.
Otherwise, this option can be replaced with the functionality that will work in the similar manner and will allow you to control and adjust parameters
for the IoT devices in your smart lighting networks.
Using built-in Light Lightness fixtures control on site lighting commissioners or customers can adjust brightness level and range for an entire group of
light fixtures,
or for the individual light fixtures in the group.
Use a slider in the smart lighting control mobile application to watch the live brightness level changes. Once the brightness level is right,
set it as a default, minimum or maximum brightness level with one click.
Smart Lighting Networks Access And Data Integrity
Control users access to the smart lighting networks. Locking mechanism ensures that the smart lighting networks data integrity is
not compromised by multiple people working on the same network.
BLE Mesh Commissioning software allows you to control what smart lighting management system users can do. You can have administrators who can do everything,
view only users, on site installers who can only use a mobile application to commission
smart lighting networks, etc.
In addition to the user privileges you can specify which smart lighting projects and networks a user can work with.
You can have administrators or installers who can work with all smart lighting networks, or
create users with any set of privileges and allow this user access only to one or several projects.
BLE Mesh Commissioning software ensures that data integrity of the smart lighting networks is not compromised.
Once an on site installer is logged into the smart lighting network, it is locked for other installers.
The smart lighting network is unlocked once the installer finishes changes and submits the updates.
Administrators who manage and configure smart lighting networks via the web dashboard can have an access to the network,
and can check which networks are locked, by whom and for how long. They can take actions if
a smart lighting network remains locked for a long time.
Once the network has the provisioned and configured devices in it, there are specific rules for the administrator to make sure that no changes are made
that will compromise the on site devices. The administrators
can always add new groups / connections, but they cannot change existing grouping when someone is working with the network on site,
or if these groups are already in use by the existing smart lighting devices.
